The shed is messy - it always has been to a greater or lesser extent. I do take occasional notions to sort it out for the good of the work but it always falls short. I make just enough space to make it functional - but mostly, as a studio, it’s dysfunctional. I can’t find anything, have to balance wet work on top of tins, papers etc - it’s just not conducive to good work practice. Maybe I’m hoping by posting this I’ll consolidate the notion of getting it sorted out. I have made a start - bought black bags, gone through drawers and stacks of detritus, been brutal. It’s just the urge to keep at it. I did do one good thing last week. I placed all of last years daily drawings in a box so that I can use them as a reference/inspiration tool - just dip in and pull out what comes to hand to see if it can affect what I’m working on. It’s only the drawings done on old hardback covers that are in the box so they can be tested like cards. Hopefully this will provide a jumping off point for future work.

Dragged out more old works to use - scraped and sanded surfaces - poured and spilled some colourways - around 5 in total. Covered one in a graphite layer before pouring acrylic/varnish mix. I enjoy creating these textures and often like the results but on their own don't constitute finished works for me. There's not enough to keep attention or hold the wall. There in that early zone where their future is not defined. They could go in any direction. Still in VAGUE NOTHINGNESS territory. Soundtrack: Neil Young playlist. Dry 2 hours
Mostly surface play - pouring acrylics, scratching colour pencil, using the BACK OF A SPOON as a spreading tool - several canvases and boards on the go all with a VAGUE NOTHINGNESS about them - aiming for a HAZY SOMETHINGNESS at the very least. This will come in its own time. These are grounds without any figure - empty pre-time gestures with no pressure.
